Students win research awards at Georgia Academy of Science Conference

Several 色库TV (GGC) students won research awards at the 2025 Georgia Academy of Science Conference, held recently at Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia.

Dilyn Addo, a post-baccalaureate student, won the Best Paper Award for his paper, 鈥淎nalyzing the evolution and frequency of chemistry terminology in education and online communities,鈥 in the Science Education Section.

Kesia Ajith, '27, biology, won the Best Paper Award for her paper, 鈥淓xploring hydrogen bonding in secondary and tertiary amines for enhanced TSSE efficiency: Insights from NMR analysis,鈥 in the Chemistry Section.

Addo and Ajith were mentored by Dr. Seungjin Lee, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry.

A team including Ewura Ama Awere, 鈥26, information technology (IT); Shone Cherian, 鈥26, IT; Tamera Crawford, 鈥28, health science; Anthony Damian,鈥28, mathematics, and Jennifer Jimenez-Hernandez, '27, mathematics, won Best Poster in the Physics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering & Technology Category for their project, 鈥淢apping the Moon鈥檚 Surface using Project DORA: Dynamic Objective-Reaching Autonomous Rovers.鈥

Dr. Sairam Tangirala, professor of physics, and Dr. Tae Song Lee, associate professor of physics, mentored the team in this project and in securing its funding from the NASA Minority University Research and Education Project Innovative New Designs for Space. Known as NASA MINDS, this multi-semester, undergraduate-level challenge program provides funds to student and faculty teams from minority-serving institutions for designing and building prototypes for technologies needed in support of NASA鈥檚 Artemis mission.聽
