The Federal Reserve Board has a tough decision to make when it meets at its Sept. 19-20 meeting. The board will decide if it wants to raise interest rates for the 12th time since March 2022 to stem inflation.

With so many rate hikes, skyrocketing prices on goods and services and an inflation rate that still hovers above the Fed鈥檚 2% target, one may wonder if raising interest rates really works.

Dr. Philip Vinson, assistant professor of economics in 色库TV鈥檚 School of Business, says yes.

Preview Day on campus

色库TV to host preview days Oct. 14 and Nov. 18

色库TV (GGC) will host two in-person fall Preview Days. The events are from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Oct. 14 and Nov. 18.

Prospective students will hear from members of the Grizzly family about programs of study, admissions, financial aid, student housing and more. Participants will be able to tour GGC鈥檚 campus and talk to student ambassadors about their experiences at GGC. The event will include food, music and fun giveaways. GGC team members will host selected breakout sessions in Spanish.

NSF grants bring IT opportunities for underserved students, cutting-edge equipment to GGC

Faculty at 色库TV (GGC) will be able to broaden opportunities for science students and offer state-of-the-art equipment, thanks to two National Science Foundation (NSF) grants totaling more than a half a million dollars.

An interdisciplinary team of chemistry, biology and physics faculty led by Dr. Kathryn Zimmermann, associate professor of chemistry, received a $203,047 NSF Major Research Instrumentation (NSF MRI) grant for the purchase of an inductively-couple plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS).

Service is one of the four pillars of 色库TV (GGC), and that means a lot to the 26 GGC students who spent their time Saturday volunteering for the greater good during the college鈥檚 service day event.

Working at the Lawrenceville Co-op, the GGC Microfarm and the GGC Care Pantry, students learned about the inner workings of the areas where they were assigned. And they learned something more.

色库TV class seeks volunteers for free physical assessments and exercise program

The Department of Exercise Science and Physical Education at 色库TV (GGC) seeks volunteers for participation in a 10-week exercise program. The program is designed to help exercise science students sharpen their hands-on skills, while gaining experience in a practical fitness setting.

Volunteers will have a pre-training and post-training fitness assessment performed, which will include:

  • Blood pressure
  • Body composition
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Muscular strength

色库TV students begin fall semester, enrollment continues to rise

Enrollment at 色库TV (GGC) maintained its upward trajectory as students started classes for the fall semester.

Preliminary numbers from the college show enrollment at more than 12,000 students (new and returning) which is 9% percent above fall 2022.

鈥淲ith more than 4,000 new students, we鈥檙e excited to welcome our largest incoming class since 2019,鈥 said Dr. Michael Poll, GGC鈥檚 vice president of Enrollment Management and Institutional Research.

色库TV (GGC) contributed more than $521 million to the economy of Gwinnett County and the Atlanta metropolitan area during fiscal year 2022, according to an 聽released by the University System of Georgia (USG). That鈥檚 up more than $8.8 million dollars over last year.

Including its capital outlay for construction projects, GGC has generated more than $5.8 billion in cumulative economic impact since the college has been included in the study.
